When the colored ink particles in the tattoo absorb the laser light, they are broken into tiny fragments which are then absorbed and removed by the normal purification processes of the skin cells.

Black, brown and blue pigments are the easiest to remove, while green, red, orange, yellow and white pigments are the most difficult.
